Principal Reproductive Health Officer in the Ministry of Health, Nancy Masache made the observation amid Parent and Child Health Initiative (PACHI)s Mamaye Project exit meetings in the Northern Region.

Masache said the private sector like PACHI remains a partner in health education among other preventive clues regarding health.

“PACHI has really assisted in the area of safe motherhood, principally to reduce maternal and child mortality rate in several ways; such efforts go well with government plans of ensuring that our pregnant mothers and children are safe.

You see as a Ministry we always want to make pregnancy a happy experience to all stakeholders in child bearing hence we promote safe delivery in the country’s hospitals and that pregnant women should adhere to medical advice,” said Masache.

Responding to some areas needing quick attention resulting from Mamaye Community Activists findings Masache said the Ministry is doing everything possible to rectify the challenges.

“We understand there are cultural, social and logistical hiccups affecting proper management of maternal related cases in rural and in areas where accessibility is almost impossible but, the Ministry is trying its best and we are hopeful soon the ground will be leveled,” she said.

In his remarks, PACHI Senior Programs Manager, Lumbani Banda has since promised to continue the good work until no child or pregnant woman dies of maternal related complication.

“It is our duty to work with government in such areas like what our project Mamaye targeted in Nkhata-Bay, Mzimba and Rumphi among others, to improve transparency of health budget; establish Maternal Deaths Surveillance Response and Home based Advocacy,” noted Banda.

Banda then said he was happy to see people’s commitment shown during implementation of their projects which he said has a promising room for sustainability.

PACHI has been implementing Mamaye Malawi project in the North since 2015 where among others it mobilized communities to work with health service providers to fight for conducive health services for pregnant mothers and babies.
